Welcome Christy Meyer and her Golden Retriever Oakley to the Universal City Public Library! Christy Meyer and Oakley represent R.E.A.D. - Reading Education Assistance Dogs -- a program of Intermountain Therapy Animals. The R.E.A.D. program improves children's reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to an animal. But not just any animal. R.E.A.D. companions are registered therapy animals who volunteer with thier owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children. Thousands of registered R.E.A.D. teams work throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, Finland, France, Sweden, South Africa, Slovenia, Spain, Netherlands, Norway and beyond. And now, Universal City. Christy and Oakley will be at Story Time on Wednesday, June 14 and Wednesday, July 12 at 4:30 p.m. Story Time both days will be “all about dogs”. While they are in the library, Christy will schedule appointments for individual children (grades 1 to 5) to read to Oakley. Children must attend Story Time in preparation for reading to Oakley. Appointments to read to Oakley will be scheduled for Saturday, June 17 and Saturday, July 15.
